WHEN A LOVED ONE PASSES

Sunday, July 16, 2006

The Scriptures remind us that it is appointed unto man once to die.

My friend, Tony Crane called yesterday to say that his mother had passed away. I will be speaking at her memorial service sometime this week.

His mother was eighty-eight and had not been well. We all realize that death is a release from many of the things that trouble us in this life. And yet, letting a loved one go is one of the most difficult things we are called upon to do. We never want them to stay and suffer and yet we find it almost unbearable to let them go. But release them we must. And in that release we find our peace.

"Let go and let God" is often heard. It is a simple statement, but it is not trite--it is true. It is the only way to live.
