GOING OUTSIDE TO WORK

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

If you ask, “What’s so great about going outside to work?”

I respond, “Going outside to do anything in the desert is big news.”

Oh yes, the sun is shining brightly, as usual, but the temperature is a nice 57 degrees at 8:30 A.M.

We are now moving into the season that sees people from all over the country pouring into our state. Most of them come from the “cold country.” We call them “snow birds.”

Oh yes, they crowd our streets and freeways. They usually do not know where they are going and so they drive very slowly and irritate the locals. They cause long waiting lines at all of the restaurants. And they also eat slowly and deliberately. In other words—they don’t get in and get out.

The population will increase even more around spring training time. But we also know that soon after spring training they will be packing up and leaving. They want to get back to what they call “God’s country” before “Hell” sets in here.

Yep, I’m going outside to work. This is a great time to be alive in the desert!
