WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS

I miss singing the old hymns. Well, I still sing them. I just miss singing them with the church.

There are many wonderful contemporary songs that I love also. But somehow the words and their meaning seem to be more clear in the old hymns. Maybe it's just me.

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
                                                      What a privilege to carry
                                                      Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
                                                      Everything to God in prayer!

Clif,

There is something so profound and personal when you look at these old hymns and somehow it just brings us closer to God.

It just seems to me that people who write a hymn just bare their heart to such a deep level! Whether it be full of love, praise or even pain....Like King David and the countless others who have shared their souls in their writing share such passion and connect our hearts together one with another!

Honestly, I don't think it is "just you" AT ALL!!!

Hope you are having a blessed week!

We still sing that hymn at my church, they do both contempary and hymns, sometimes they change the tune of a few hyms, but most the time not. My favorite is sweet hour of Prayer!

I still love the old hymns as well and am so blessed that our church still sings them, as well as the contemporary stuff because that way my children get to learn them as well. Of course, if I had to I would teach them to my children, but I don't sound too pretty as a solo:)
