THE BEST OF TIMES/THE WORST OF TIMES

"IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES, IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES." --Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

It seems to me that what we have here today is a paradox. I agree with Dickens--it's the best of times and the worst of times.

What is a person to do? Well, what I am not going to do is shout and run around "like a chicken with its head cut off."

What I am going to do is get up every day and act as sanely as I can, make as wise decisions as I am able and move on.

After reading a lengthy essay by a friend from my home town who is now a distinguished retired professor who is liberal in every way, I have decided that written debate with him is a waste of time. Is he hopeless? No. Not as long as he is alive and God hasn't brought things to a conclusion.

I have just decided that what God wants from me is for me to love Him with all my heart, soul and mind and to love my neighbor as myself.

He wants this to be the deciding factor in all I think, do and say. Big task!

But that's my goal for today, tomorrow, next Tuesday at the polls and every other day.

Yes, these are the best of times and the worst of times but I'm smiling because of GOD.

Very practical and good common sense. I agree. We can't live in a panic - God needs those of us with faith to show the others that we can be secure even in insecure times. Great post.

Though I never read the book, I've always felt drawn to this Dickens' phrase.
Your "adaptation" is common sense, yes ... but calming at the same time. I'm a bit reassured; strenghtened, too.
Thank you, Clif!
