DON'T QUIT---FIGHT ONE MORE ROUND

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest! If you must--but never quit.

Life is queer, with its twists and turns,
As ever one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won if he'd stuck it out;
Stick to your task, though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with one more blow.

Success is failure turned inside out--
the silver tint of the clouds of doubt--
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you MUSTN'T QUIT.

Someone handed me this very poem at work one day when I was having a hard time. What a thoughtful and encouraging gesture! Perhaps we could pass it on?

  10. My mother used to save newspaper clippings of poems, quotes, etc. This poem was one she saved many years ago. (I may still have the clipping put away somewhere.) Anyway, I was thinking of this poem a few days ago.

Thank you for sharing this. Not only is the poem encouraging, but it brought back some precious memories of my mom.

    Blessings,
    Joan

Someone sent this poem to me many years ago. I have it framed and it's sitting on my desk. It reminds me daily to never, ever quit.

Thank you so much for sharing this poem with all of us, too, and may God richly bless you each and every day!

    Happy Palm Sunday!

  19. Great poem. It reminds me of Thomas Edison. When he was interviewed by a young reporter who asked Mr. Edison if he felt like a failure and if he thought he should give up by now. Perplexed, Edison replied, "Young man, why would I feel like a failure? And why would I ever give up? I now know definitively over 9,000 ways that an electric light bulb will not work. Success is almost in my grasp." Shortly after that and over 10,000 attempts, Edison invented the light bulb."Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." ~Thomas Edison

  21. Thanks for a fantastic poem. It is so true.... and we know the darkest hour always comes right before the dawn. So many quit waiting on God because it isn't fitting into their time of need...or so they think. Those that DO wait...get their strength renewed. YES! It's worth it.
Bless you. *** Ya know, I am a PK. :-)
My dad was a pastor in the Presbyterian denomination. So grateful for my heritage. My life would be totally and radically different without it ...I am sure.

  22. Thank you! Are you sure you didn't write this poem?

I was reading about Moses on the mountain and Aaron in the valley recently.

When God was giving Moses all of his plans for Aaron's role in the new tabernacle, Aaron was in the valley giving up hope. He thought Moses was never coming back so he started up the calf worship again. We never know what God has in store for us. Just keep working faithfully.

    Have a Blessed Easter Week.

  24. Hi Clif,

Thank you for your sweet comments re. my S/S post (A Fool’s Prayer)

You know, as soon as it “published” I was having second thoughts. Seeing it in print wasn’t nearly as compelling as hearing my pastor recite it years ago.

‘Suppose this reminds me that when I’m getting ready to criticize others, I need to examine my own actions! (Whew … now that's a tall order!)

    Have a wonderful evening!
    Myra
