BLOGGING QUESTIONS

Friday, April 03, 2009

You would think that after blogging for five years I would understand the mindset of a blogger. I don't! I just don't! I know that bloggers are just people and that people have different personalities and thank goodness they are not all like mine. But I still have questions.

So here goes:

If you went to the trouble to set up a blog, why do you only post once a week or once a month?

If you like comments on your blog--and maybe you don't, why don't you make more comments on the blogs you visit?

Why don't you check into your own blog even just once a day to see if somebody might have died and left you an inheritance and your blog is the only way they know to contact you?

Why do you write posts that are two and half miles long? Do you really expect anybody to read them?

Why with all the blogging that has been going on for so long does the word blogger get highlighted every time you type it, like it's a none word or something?

Well, this is enough questions for now. If you understand this to be negative and fault finding, I do not intend it that way. I honestly want to know the answers to these "silly" questions of mine. If you have the time, please help me with this. I will appreciate it. Will I sleep better at night? No, but I will feel better knowing you care enough about me to try to help me out. Thanks!

Hi Clif,

I have found that people are NOT on the same frequency of posting as I am. Be that once a day or once a month.

Some days, I have been known to post several times...and then EVERY day of the week!! Other days, not so much. Like, recently...I've taken an extended BREAK from blogging, in order to finish some interior decorating that needs to be completed here at home. I'm making my own Window Treatments right now...and will be painting different rooms and furniture. Then, there's the GARDEN!! YIKES!!! I see many breaks on the horizon for me. And very little posting.

I don't always have time to comment...but I do LOVE to have comments on my blog. And, I am fortunate to have many friends who stand by me while I'm away...and comment or email me. To those...I do respond. If the Lord speaks to me about commenting...or for that matter emailing right now...I do that too!

I do try to get "on" my blog at least once a day...but up until now, I hadn't thought about anyone leaving me an inheritance and not being able to reach me any other way!! Now...perhaps, I'll have to check in more than once a day!! LOL!!!

I didn't find your post to be either negative nor silly. I hope my answers help...they've helped ME to understand others a little bit better!!

~Blessings,
Jan

Clif,
Now that I have a new camera and am learning to use it :-) I am posting more frequently but shorter posts...I check my blog every day if I'm home but my "dance card" is getting filled with church and friends and trips and...life!
I do like seeing comments on my post and I like leaving comments. Sometimes, though, I have to think about something before I can be comfortable leaving a comment.
I like reading your posts (and Char's,too) they are so honest and sincere.

I have wondered why some feel they need to "take a break" from blogging. I don't blog every day - just when I feel like I have something to share.
Therefore, I'm not under any pressure to blog and can just enjoy it.

I usually do check my blog every day - often several times a day - but I'm retired and have time to do that. :)

I learned from my daughter to make my posts short and readable, with pictures is possible. It makes it easier to read.

I think some don't comment, even if they read the blog, because they can't think of what to say. Maybe afraid of what others will think of their comment.

Don't know why blogger is highlighted. I suppose it's a new word - and not in the dictionary.

So just enjoy the blogging, Clif, and smile at the comments. :)

You and I think alike.

If someone posts more than once a day, I don't revisit. One visit/comment per day is enough!

I get frustrated when I leave comments day after day and never hear from that person. After a while, I stop visiting them as I feel they do not "like" me.

As for the "half mile long" posts, I seldom read them. I scan and leave a comment. (My time is valuable too.)

Your questions are interesting and so are the responses you have received! You've been blogging for five years! Wow!

I do like the shorter concise blog posts people do and usually do that too myself, although every now and then they get longer.

I love to get comments even if it is a simple hello! I like to leave comments too. Sometimes I don't leave comments if I read the post in my "reader" and don't go to the actual site. I don't want to feel like I have nothing to say or am just repeating what someone else already said in a comment.

I like to try to get a post a day. I have been disappointed to find a new blog I enjoy and then they quit blogging for an extended period of time.

Have a good weekend!

Good questions! I'll have to think about them and answer later. I had my right eye surgery yesterday and can't spend much time on the computer due to the glare (I'm now wearing sunglasses tonight!)

I've wondered some of these same things. I'm also wondering if blogging has peaked, and becoming less popular? What do you think?

Whoops ... do I resemble this, or whaaat? Funny you should mention the frequency of posting, Clif, when here I've been beating myself up about that very thing.

I hate excuses... but truth is, in the last couple weeks Hubby's health situation has become not so great. I feel guilty going off to work at oh-dark-thirty each morning; then guilty at night if I leave him to get on the computer. Way too much Guilt, eh? TMI?

At any rate, I DO make time each evening to read my favs, in a (perhaps selfish) effort to become centered and still. I really value your words. Thank you.

Good questions!

Embedded in the context of blogging is the root, "log". Thus I tend to log different items, on a variety of subjects. It's my way of leaving a legacy for my grandchildren. Hopefully one day they'll better understand how this sassy mind works and - most important - Who governs my life.

I stay clued in to my visitors by way of email (I've set up my blogger account to notify me whenever I receive a comment).

Too, I love visiting many other sites - some of which I "follow" formally (like yours). I usually leave a "howdy" when I come-and-go.

What a blessing it's been to meet up with the amazing people that inhabit cyberspace, especially those I've found via other Christian bloggers. Some I feel as if I've known for years, and most leave me the better for having considered their thoughts.

Thank you for helping us to stay focused!

Hi Cliff,

Thank you for your wonderful comment on my blog today. It seems to me that you wonder these things purely because they are thought provoking questions.

I post several times a week, mostly because I use my blog as a way to record the happenings of my family and to connect with other family oriented people.

I love it when people leave me comments, therefor I try to leave others comments and comment back when someone leaves a comment for me.

I check my blog when I check my e-mail and facebook accounts, it's just part of what I call my Coffee Routine. I drink my coffee and respond to e-mail in the morning when I wake up. It's my quiet time.

I tend to write shorter posts, but sometimes if it is lengthy It is because I do it so that I remember what happened that day with my growing children. I don't expect people to read them, but if they do that's okay too.

I think that the word blogger gets highlighted evertime you read it because it hasn't entered the Websters Dictionary yet. . .but it should be there none the less.

Anywho, Happy Sunday!

God Bless,

Chelsi McFadden

Good questions! Not sure of the answers...I was not aware of the word "blogger" being highlighted!

I try and post M W F...but now if I add Sunday's to my list I may be able to have more posts. We'll see. It is tough with a six month old in the house!
