ONE HEARTBEAT AWAY
By Mark Cahill

GUEST REVIEWER: When I realized how excited my nephew, Mike Hodge was about Mark Cahill's book, One Heartbeat Away I knew he should be the one to write the review and not me. His passion for reaching others with the message of Christ comes through in his review.

OVERVIEW: Based on actual conversations with lost people, this book will help you anticipate their questions and objections. Why have atheists, agnostics, Muslims, Catholics, prisoners, and soldiers all read One Heartbeat Away and become born again? As best-selling author Mark Cahill suggests, because once you know the truth about the Bible, creation vs. evolution, heaven and hell, sin, and the cross, there is only one logical decision to make. The truth does set you free! Get this book into the hands of family, friends, and strangers and watch the Holy Spirit work wonders in their lives.
AUTHOR: Mark Cahill has a business degree from Auburn University, where he was an honorable mention Academic All-American in basketball. He has worked in the business world at IBM and in various management positions, and he taught high school for four years. Mark now speaks to more than 25,000 people a year at conferences, camps, retreats, etc. He has also appeared on numerous radio and television shows. Mark's favorite thing to do is to go out and meet people and find out what they believe and why they believe it. You can find Mark at malls, concerts, art and music festivals, airports, beaches, sporting events, bar sections of towns, college campuses, etc., doing just that.
REVIEW BY MIKE HODGE:
One Heartbeat Away is the kind of book that grabs your attention starting with the cover.  The graphic on the cover cleverly uses a line from a cardiograph to separate the words in the title.  But, it gets better!  Throughout the book, graphics are cleverly used to reinforce a point or grab your attention.  So enough about the book, its graphics etc. what about the content?
We have all heard the statement about how the Vice President is one heartbeat away from the Presidency, but how about the more important question for all of us.  What happens to us when we die?  In this easy reading and interesting book, Mark Cahill lays out a cogent argument for life after death.  He uses many endnotes to reference his sources and quotations.  An example of one of the many excellent quotes is from Winston Churchill, “Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”
Mark goes through a review of the reasons why Evolutionary Theory is not “truth” and the common sense arguments used throughout the book reinforce what most people know but are afraid to admit.  If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, then this is a must read book; because it is your chance to disprove Christianity.  The section that covers “Evidence for Design” will definitely draw you in if for no other reason then the quotes from atheists such Stephen Hawking.  Did you know evolutionists have and still are looking for the “missing link?  It seems interesting and odd, that scientists who are supposed to be seekers of the truth would go to great lengths to falsify their supposed factual basis for believing evolution: The Nebraska, Piltdown, Java, Peking, and Neanderthal man have all been proven to be frauds.  I know, you are thinking to yourself how can that be?  But the truth is they have all been disproven… so why don’t most people know about it?
Mark answers the question but you will have to read the book because I won’t give the answer away.  One of the most brilliant men that ever lived didn’t doubt that there was a creator; he said “I want to know how God created the world” another brilliant man Stephen Hawking (a well know atheist) said, “The universe and the laws of physics seem to have been specifically designed for us.”
As you read this book you will constantly be challenged to think; for example why is man moral? Why do right and wrong exist?  There is lot to this book both science and Scripture.  If you don’t remember some of your basic science classes the book will be a good refresher.  Scientific laws such as the Law of Biogenesis (which dictates that life comes from life) which raises the question, “Where did the first life in the universe come from?”  Well I don’t know and neither do any of the scientists.
One more tidbit of information provided here to hopefully get you to read this book.  When science believed the world was flat, the Bible for thousands of years said it was round.  Isaiah 40:22, Living Bible, “It is God who sits above the circle of the earth.”  “At a time when science believed that the earth was flat, it was the Scriptures that inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world” --Ray Comfort.
“As you search out eternal truth, remember that the Lord says to use your reason.  Use your logic.  It is not intellectual suicide to believe truth.  Logic exists to help us find truth.  Be reasonable, and watch as the truth continues to unfold.”-- Mark Cahill.  “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord”—Isaiah 1:18.
I do hope you will read this book because if you do and you are honest with yourself, you will want a personal relationship with the Creator.
