BOOKS—everywhere I looked there were books. Every year at the Pepperdine University Bible Lectureship, book dealers from all over the country bring their books and put them on display along side the University book stores stacks.

“A good book is the precious life-blood of a master spirit, embalmed and treasured up on purpose to a life beyond life.” Words and stories change people. I have been changed by the words and stories of Augustine, Pascal, Tolstoy, Frederick Buechner, C.S. Lewis, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and others. “While many things can shape us—pictures, music, and the other arts—it does seem to be words that rap most surely at the door.”
