SHARING THE PAIN--JURY DUTY

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

Yesterday I wrote about sharing the pain.

Today I did. I went into downtown Phoenix for jury duty.

That's not really what I had in mind and I'm being a little silly. But sitting around all day waiting for your name to be called is a form of pain.

Tomorrow, I'll get serious again and get back to the "real stuff" suffering is made of.

The last time I was waiting to see if I'd be "chosen" for jury duty, something happened that had the entire courtroom laughing.

The attorney came to one slightly older woman and asked if there was any reason she should not be considered for this jury.

She replied, "Yes, I'm the prosecutors mother." He blushed and said it was true and she got to leave.

So did I about thirty minutes later when all had been chosen before they got to my row.

jury duty is a lesson in civics for sure...the combination of today's society certainly makes a rich mix of differentness yet all there for the same reason...
good luck with your assignment if you get one.
thank you for serving...
