We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Our children helped us celebrate with an all expense paid all arranged vacation In Hawaii.

Things may not be perfect in your life, but if you hope to get to where you want to go, you must be happy right where you are. Many people assume that they are not going to be happy until their circumstances change--until their spouse changes, or until they get a bigger house, or until they get rid of all their problems.
Don't make that mistake. Enjoy your life right where you are. Maybe you have some major obstacles in your path, but being discouraged is not going to make anything better. You need to realize that God is in control of your life. He's directing your steps, and He has you exactly where He wants you.

And if you don't believe He is in control, then just try to do something else when He makes clear what it is He wants to have done! It's like Jonah and the whale of the 21st century! I have to admit, with a bit of shame, that it happens to me upon occasion.

So true. I love that Bible verse!
this makes me think of the song Have yourself a merry little Christmas. I have loved that song forever but only this year did I start to hear the lyrics in a different way. When they say "have yourself a merry little Christmas now" they mean that while it is nice to remember other times, or hope for better times...it is most important to live with and celebrate the blessings we have right now.
One of the secrets to my happiness is that I appreciated where I am, wherever that might be.

That's one of my favorite Scriptures. So many things happen to us that we don't understand, but we must live in the present and realize that God is in all of our tomorrows. And if He's there, what have we to fear?
I read your "Happy Thanksgiving" post and would love to have been in Plymouth in November. Hubby and I spent the month of June on the East coast and enjoyed Plymout and the area very much.

I think this goes along with your post about contentment a few weeks ago...you are right that being discouraged doesn't make things better...what does make them better is enjoying the gifts that God has given each day.
