POINTING THE FINGER

Saturday, March 05, 2011

A husband and wife were getting ready to go out for the evening. The wife kept doing things that were making them late for a party they were going to.

The husband finally lost it and yelled, "How could God make you so beautiful and so stupid at the same time?"

Without hesitation the wife shot back, "Well, he made me beautiful so you would love me, and he made me stupid so I'd love you."

Many times in stressful situations we point a finger at someone---usually the one closest to us.

If we really want to solve relationship problems and experience lasting love, we have to get over the blame game.

We smile when we think of the first relationship of all time, Adam and Eve and how they got caught up with blaming. (Genesis 3:12)

But we don't smile or think it wrong when we do the same thing ourselves.

Whether it's with our mate or someone else we need to remember the old, perhaps trite but true statement: "When you point a finger at somebody, there are four pointing back at you."

Stop blaming and start gracing! (Is gracing a word?) Hey, don't blame me. I'm not a word smith.

Guilty as charged, Clif.
Just yesterday, our Dir. of Training addressed this very subject, challenging us to stop the "blamestorming" sessions in the workplace.

PS - If gracing isn't a word ... it should be! I like it, a lot!

Hi Clif,

This post speaks so honestly about something very important to me. For me now, life isn't about blaming someone when things don't go the way I want them to.

Last year, I asked the Lord to restore the joy of my salvation and I'm so thankful He did. He extended grace and forgiveness to me; I can do no less to others.

When I feel frustrated, angry or disappointed with someone, I remind myself of this scripture in Matthew 6, "But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." It has helped me to let go of unhealthy thoughts which no longer matter in my life.

Blessings and peace.

Clif,

LOVE this post! Soo very true too! I really hate how much finger pointing goes on. All the way from our Nations Leaders .... we need to take responsibility for ourselves....own our mistakes and through Christ change our ways!

Have a blessed weekend

I LOVE the word gracing! What a great way of putting it! And I love those two stories. I have heard them before, and even used the second with my grandkids, but they never fail to make me smile AND think. Thanks for a fun visit for Spiritual Sunday :)

Hi Clif,

Very poignant, timely post. We are all guilty of blaming others for something when we really should be looking at ourselves. May God give us the grace to examine ourselves first.
