We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. Our children helped us celebrate with an all expense paid all arranged vacation In Hawaii.

John Greenleaf Whittier wrote this beautiful old hymn, Dear Lord and Father of Mankind.
I can't remember the last time we met as the church and sang this song of prayer to God.
And yet I believe this is a prayer we all could pray with deep sincerity.
I know we want our strivings to cease. I know we need the beauty of His peace.
But if it's going to happen we must pray and we must be in a receptive mood.
We must be open and receptive to the dews of quietness that God is dropping on us.
Then and only then will our spirits be quieted, our strivings cease and we see the beauty of His peace

Thanks for a great post. Yes...how much we DO strive these days...even striving in spiritual things, not just the worldly troubles battering us. God's grace is sufficient. We just have to find that spot where we ...be still, and claim it...once again. Blessings!

Thanks.. In reading your blog I noticed you do book reviews and I thought what a great idea I could do that on my blog from time to time. Then I thought authors do book signings.. So last week I went to my first book signing at a Barnes&Noble.. Now I have my first "signed" book and have read about half of it. "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot.. A very thought provoking book. At some point in time I will review the book but I just want to thank you for adding a new dimension to my life.
