Released from captivity? Well, not really. But we have been away for a week.
We made a trip to Stockton, California to help our friends, Paul and Bobbie Covey, celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Their daughters planned and pulled off a wonderful party for them. It was a special occasion and we were thrilled to be a part of it. But we hated to miss the 60th Wedding Anniversary of our dear friends, Ted and Delma Wilson. Their party was here in Phoenix on the same date as the Coveys' celebration. We also missed the big Ditmore reunion in San Antonio, Texas on the same date.
Since we were in California we decided to make a trip over to Carmel where we went on our honeymoon forty-eight years ago. We had a great time there. We enjoyed the cool, cool, weather. We especially enjoyed it after the 103 degree temperatures we experienced after crossing over into California and up through the San Joaquin Valley to Stockton.
From Carmel we drove to the lovely little town of Solvang and spent one night. We have been there many times but we enjoyed it almost as much as the first time we were there. We made a brief stop in the beautiful city of Santa Barbara and then drove on to Norwalk, which is in the L.A. area to visit with relatives.
We had a wonderful trip and it was good to get away but it is always good to come home.

Hi Clif, I had so hoped to see you and Charlotte when you were here for the Covey celebration. I have been helping out at the church office for a bit now and, with Carol Smith, have been looking over old bulletins. Forgot how much I enjoyed them. I was at the Covey's a few weeks ago for Melissa's graduation party and remembered the pot lucks before the Tiger football games. We had such fun, don't think I apreciated that time enough.
I have been reading your blog for some time now, I began when you wrote a short piece about our Elizabeth. Thank you for that. I read lots, looking for someone to say something that makes me go..."Okay, that helps." Occasionally there is something. You wrote about holding tighter to God's hand in the storm. C.S Lewis says much in A Grief Observed that helps me know I'm not crazy. I have tiny ah ha moments, however, nothing incredibly profound. Nothing that gives me lengthy spans of peace, or rest in this grief.
Well......just wanted to say "Hi, I do read, and will endeavor to comment when and if I have something of value to share.
I miss hearing you speak, I miss the Sunday evening series through the Old Testament. I remember a great deal on our study of Elijah (I even took notes!)
Blog On, and I will Read On.

the fact that I posted twice, loggged on as anonymous, then signed my name is exactly why I should not be allowed to respond to ANYTHING!

Sandy,
It is great to hear from you. We wish we could have seen you while we were in Stockton. We have wonderful memories of our days in Stockton and at Central. You and your family are a big part and a good part of those memories. I know you will keep your hand in God's hand and He will lead you on. It was a joy to have dinner with Ramona a few years ago when she was visiting with Carol. We love you. Clif
