VALENTINES DAY--LOVE

Thursday, February 14, 2008

We say we love God, mom, apple pie, ice cream, movies, books, cars, our country, and on and on it goes. All this love and we have just one word to describe our feelings about everything from God to gummy bears. That word is LOVE!

The Greeks had four words for love: Affection, Friendship, Eros, and Charity.

So, what does love mean? I like the way Paul breaks it down in l Corinthians, chapter 13.

Love never gives up, love cares more for others than for self, love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have, love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head, doesn’t force itself on others, isn’t always “me first”, doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end.”

“O God, you are love; help us to show your love to others every day. This we ask for your love’s sake. Amen”
