YOU ARE NOT AN ACCIDENT

Saturday, October 30, 2010

I have birthdays on my mind. Last night we celebrated our daughter's birthday. Birthdays are special.

The following thoughts are from Rick Warren's book, The Purpose Driven Life.

You are no accident.

Your birth was no mistake or mishap, and your life is no fluke of nature. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did. He was not at all surprised by your birth. In fact, he expected it.

Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God. he thought of you first. It is not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this very moment. You are alive because God wanted to create you! The Bible says, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me." Job 12:10 TEV

We discover that meaning and purpose only when we make God the reference point of our lives.

The Message paraphrase of Romans 12:3 says, "The only accurate way to understand ourselves is by what God is and by what he does for us."

This poem by Russell Kelfer sums it up:

You are who you are for a reason.
You're part of an intricate plan.
You're a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God's special woman or man.

Wonderful post, Clif! I love the assurance we can have just by believing in what He says in His Word. How lovely to know that none of us was an accident! Enjoyed the poem as well.

What jumped out at me was "We discover that meaning and purpose only when we make God the reference point of our lives." It was our discussion question in our Life Group last night! Happy weekend, Clif!

I know that there are many children I see every day in the schools that need to know this truth. They are precious in His sight!

"make God the reference point of our lives." I like that! Oh how our perspectives would be changed if we continually did that.

Great post...great message!
