I picked up The Sound of His Voice by Edward Fudge and began reading. I only intended to read for a short period of time. When I put the book down I had finished reading the entire book. This splendid book is about the guidance of God in our lives. In prayer I confessed to God that I had not been as open to His leading as I should have been and that I truly did want Him to lead me.
I walked downstairs and looked out the front door. I saw that the UPS person had left a small box that neither my wife nor I knew had been delivered. It contained a book that I had forgotten that I had requested. I am a book reviewer. The book is Let God Talk To You: When You Hear Him You Will Never Be The Same BY Becky Tirabassi. This is a book about the guidance of God in our lives.
Earlier in the week I received You Were Born For This : 7 Keys to a Life of Predictable Miracles by Bruce Wilkinson. This is also a book about how God guides our lives in doing His work in helping others.
For most of my life I have believed that God only"speaks" to us through His Word. I no longer believe that. I now believe He directs us, if we allow Him to, in more ways than one. God has not gone away and left us with just a book, as great as it is, to guide us. As the old song says: "All the way my Savior leads me: What have I to ask beside? Can I doubt his tender mercy, Who thro' life has been my guide?"
Bruce Wilkinson wrote: "God is not sitting back while the centuries tick by, merely listening to angel choirs."
If you long for a closer connection to God, then talk to Him and listen for His "voice."
(In the next few days and weeks I will be reviewing: The Sound of His Voice by Edward Fudge; Let God Talk To You by Becky Tirabassi; Hearing God by Dallas Willard and You Were Born For This by Bruce Wilkinson)

Clif,
I, too, believe that God directs and guides us. I try to listen for that "still, small voice." Thanks for a very thoughtful S.S. post.

Clif,
I believe that as well, that God will use whatever it takes to get our attention. Hopefully we are paying attention.
God bless you and can't wait to hear about even more books that you are reading.

I truly believe this, thank you.
Thank you for all the reviews you do.
I am also learning to allow God to lead me. It is not always easy. I think a lot of the time my pride gets in the way. I am asking God to help me with that. Any tips Clif on releasing the "pride" or "ego"?
I have been doing a great deal of talking to God and realized recently I need to do more listening. Thank you for your thoughts.
It is so refreshing to hear you say this. and to see you still growing even though you have served the Lord your whole life...Some get to a point that they think "been there done that" or there isn't anything else God could show me but NOT YOU!
I hope God is never finished teaching or showing me all HE wants me to know or do and I pray I am forever looking for what that might be!
Sometimes that voice is not so still and small -- and yes, the number of different ways that the message gets carried is remarkable. Thanks for the names of those books. I am going to track them down. It really helps to have one's own experiences confirmed by others although I know that the appearance of God in one's life needs no other confirmation.
It is amazing that the God of the universe wants to talk with ME.
I so agree with you here, Clif (sp?). I am going through the same change of mind. God has given His Spirit to lead us into all truth...I think we have limited Him. He may not be revealing more of his Word, but He is and does guide His people indivdually.
Great post Clif! God is so much bigger than the box we put Him in, isn't He?
Cliff, The last 2 years I have been trying to do just that. Be still and let him guide me. I have noticed things that I would not of noticed other wise. OH~~~~ I just love that UPS truck! Something about getting a pacgages in the mail is so fun.
Have a wonderful day,
Ginger
Very interesting! I'll be looking forward to your coming reviews.
Have a great S/S!

Yes, prayers open that door that leads to Him. And I'm glad He's always there, ready to listen, anytime, anywhere. Those books sound great. I'm still reading the "The Power to Change Today". Awesome testimony! Thank you for that.
God bless and have a wonderful week ahead!
As you know Cliff I believe this. God does speak in many ways the question is are we willing to truly hear him speak into our life? Will we obey? I have heard, and at times not obeyed. Not a wise thing to do! Wisdom and strength to apply what we hear from God is a key to unlocking power that is ours when we are willing. Clif as I have mentioned I enjoy writing book reviews also, I plan to post one on a book you have already done a review on, but that is okay. I have so many I could review...I need to just do them!
P.S I look forward to reading your reviews and thanks for the post!
I agree that God speaks to us, through His Word, but also through His Spirit that dwells in us. As a young Christian in my 20's, I didn't know the Word well yet, but He warned me, chastised me, and prompted me just the same. I learned it was Him most when I didn't obey. I'm really looking forward to your book reviews...I might just have to find and read these for myself, though...an "inspired" book often helps me understand His Word all the more. Thanks...a wonderful post, as always. Mary
Delighted to meet you! And I too will be moving to cactus land.
Just stopping by from Spiritual Sundays. Delighted in my visit.
If you have a prayer request or a passion to battle on your knees, I invite you to the battle at my blog.
Blessings from Costa Rica,

Clif, I too look forward to your review. I'm glad God speaks to us in other ways other than just through His Word, because I know several very fine beievers who are quite illiterate. Whatever way He wants to speak to me, is fine with me. I'm priviledged to know that He does! Have a wonderful Sunday.
Blessings,
Sandi
You model teachability to me. Thank you for taking the time to share about these great books that you read. The cry of my heart is to hear God's voice and have the sense to obey.
I have found over and over in my life that when I stop to listen God is always "talking" to me. In fact, I think He tells me most when I stay aware of His direction.
Clif, I hope you share from all you are gleaning from your book list. My hubby feels as you do about the voice of God. He's a stern, god-fearing baptist whose faith has mostly been tested thru my illness. I have morphed into a relationship with the Lord that has blown me away...he does want to talk to us and walk with us and show us things and teach us. Thru Fibromyalgia I now see visions, get love taps and feel his presence during worship like never before. We just gotta press in.
Hi,
I think , Our main source of guidance must be God's word, but he has spoken to my heart in many different ways along my journey with him. Thanks for stopping by and leaving the sweet comment.
Have a Blessed week.8-)
